Executive Mosaic is honored to introduce Jonathan Woodson, assistant secretary for health affairs at the Defense Department, as the newest inductee into the Wash100 — a group of influential leaders in the government contracting arena.
Woodson serves as principal adviser on health issues and medical policy to the defense secretary and is in charge of the Military Health System and its $50 billion budget for healthcare, educational, research and medical programs.
He addressed the Pentagon’s efforts to standardize healthcare functions throughout the military in an August 2014 interview with DoD News, where he also described the new Defense Health Agency‘s role in that effort.
“The establishment of the Defense Health Agency was probably one of the most important transformative changes in the Military Health System in five decades. And it was due,” Woodson said.
Woodson also works with the undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness on the health of deployed forces and medical defense programs against weapons of mass destruction.
Additionally, Woodson serves as co-chair of the Armed Services Biomedical Research Evaluation and Management Committee and provides guidance to the Defense Health Agency, the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and other military health and medical organizations.
He previously worked at the Boston University School of Medicine, Boston Medical Center, the Office of the Surgeon General of the U.S. Army and the Army Reserve Medical Command.
Woodson, who is a U.S. Army Reserve brigadier general, is certified to practice internal medicine, general surgery, vascular surgery and critical care surgery and has been deployed to international assignments in Kosovo, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
Executive Mosaic congratulates Jonathan Woodson and the DoD team for their selection to receive this award.
This year represents our fifth annual Wash100 award selection. The Wash100 is the premier group of private and public sector leaders selected by Executive Mosaic's organizational and editorial leadership as the most influential leaders in the GovCon sector. These leaders demonstrate skills in leadership, innovation, achievement, and vision.
