Executive Mosaic is honored to announce Mark Weber, president of NetApp’s U.S. public sector as the newest inductee into the Wash 100, the premier group of leaders who create value for the American public and execute strategic vision at the intersection of the public and private sectors.
Weber oversees NetApp’s public sector subsidiary, where he manages and develops the company’s business for all levels of government and is responsible for the success of the subsidiary’s sales, engineering, business development, finance, operations, and marketing efforts.
The federal technology sales and engineering veteran previously spent 13 years with Sun MicroSystems after a stint with Hewlett-Packard, rising to serve as Sun MicroSystems’ regional executive director for federal, state and local government.
One of Weber’s main focus areas at NetApp is positioning NetApp’s storage and data management software and hardware to help customers mine and get value out of the massive amounts of data they are collecting.
“People have figured out that the real value in IT is the data and it’s how you manage that data… people are now turning that data into something actionable,” Weber told ExecutiveBiz.
“They’re mining that information and getting different ideas on how to run their business, how to save money, how to find trends – be that in healthcare, be that in the DOD, be that in an intelligence agency. They now realize that data is everything.”
Weber has helped bring in storage technology to the firm that supports intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions and told Federal News Radio in 2012 he sees great opportunity for NetApp and its customers in the 40-to-50 percent data growth customers are experiencing each year.
“We see growth everywhere,” Weber told ExecutiveBiz. “The data explosion is not just exclusive to the federal government. The healthcare market is another place we see big data growth.”
Weber is also at the forefront of the company’s cybersecurity efforts, including its Cyber Alliance, which is designed to establish partnerships and to enhance the interoperability of cyber solutions based on NetApp storage, virtualization, and big data technologies.
“Cross-collaboration between the leading security companies is essential for delivering the best security solutions to our government customers,” Weber noted in 2013. “Our storage lies at the heart of many large technology environments, and we are proud to add the ability to defend them from cyberattack or misuse.”
Executive Mosaic extends its congratulations to Mark and the rest of the NetApp organization.
