Stratcom Lead Gen. John Hyten Named to 2017 Wash100 for Space & Cyber Initiative Leadership

Executive Mosaic is honored to introduce Air Force Gen. John Hyten, head of U.S. Strategic Command, as an inductee into the 2017 edition of the Wash100 — Executive Mosaic’s annual selection of influential leaders in the government contracting arena.

Hyten took charge of Stratcom in November 2016 as the successor to Navy Adm. Cecil Haney, who retired from active duty service last month.

Stratcom’s mission is to manage the U.S.’ nuclear command-and-control functions with additional responsibilities over space operations; global strike; global missile defense; and global command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.

Hyten previously served as commander of Air Force Space Command, where he led the implementation of the Space Mission Force — an initiative that seeks to standardize the way space crews operate weapon systems and mitigate threats in contested environments.

“The Space Mission Force construct is really quite simple; we are revamping our crews to respond appropriately to threats in a dynamic environment,” Hyten said in July 2016.

At AFSPC, Hyten highlighted efforts to deliver agile, integrated and resilient effects across space and cyberspace to meet strategic demands.

He said at the time all military operations rely on integrated space and cyberspace effects to achieve national objectives and information superiority.

In January, Hyten told a Stanford University audience the U.S. must work to deter conflict in space amid efforts from Russia and China to develop weapons for space deployment.

Executive Mosaic congratulates Gen. John Hyten and the Stratcom team for their selection to receive this award.
