The highly sought-after Wash100 Award celebrates the achievements and vision of 100 government leaders and executives from the government contracting industry. These individuals have shown exemplary leadership in driving innovations and a desire to revolutionize the industry.

“Susan and IBM are embracing the future with their trailblazing work in AI,” said Jim Garrettson, CEO of Executive Mosaic and founder of the Wash100 Award. “Susan is leading IBM’s charge in bringing cutting-edge tech to government, from modernizing the USCIS verification system under a $279 million contract to transforming federal travel and expense management through GSA’s ETSNext program.”

“Whether it’s AI-driven transformation or mission-critical IT modernization, Susan is pushing boundaries and helping federal agencies turn bold ideas into real-world solutions,” added Garrettson.

Setting the Standard for Responsible AI Use

Wedge advocated for the responsible purchase and use of artificial intelligence. Alongside Vanessa Hunt, IBM Technology’s general manager for the U.S. federal market, Wedge expressed support for the Peters Bill. The bipartisan bill, authored by Senator Gary Peters of Michigan, aims to implement safeguards for the government to maximize the potential of AI technology while minimizing risks.

Wedge and Hunt stated, “AI can enhance government service delivery, improve efficiency and accelerate decision-making. Strong governance is critical for responsible adoption of AI by federal agencies and to allow for proper accountability and transparency on how AI is being used.”

The IBM executives also emphasized the company’s support for the Promoting Responsible Evaluation and Procurement to Advance Readiness for Enterprise-wide Deployment, or PREPARED, for AI Act.

Furthermore, in light of President Donald Trump’s plan to rescind the previous administration’s artificial intelligence executive order, Wedge has emphasized that IBM Consulting remains committed to shaping “policies that help advance communities and technology” irrespective of the political landscape.

“We focus on policy, not politics, and that’s not going to change,” said Wedge.

Over Two Decades of Leadership at IBM

Wedge has been with IBM for over 23 years, joining the company in 2002 as a senior consultant and program manager. She climbed the ranks to become senior manager and managing partner of various divisions.

Before joining IBM Consulting, Wedge began her career at American Management Systems. She started as an intern and left AMS after seven years as a senior principal.

Wedge’s impact while serving at IBM has not gone unnoticed as she has been recognized for her work a number of times. This includes the 2024 Wash100 Award she earned for bringing new technology ideas to government clients.

The IBM managing partner has consistently demonstrated her value to the company and the industry. Notably, Wedge has become a champion for ethical AI.
