Rick Ambrose, EVP of Lockheed Martin Space, Receives Fifth Wash100 Award

Rick Ambrose, executive vice president of Space for Lockheed Martin, was presented with his 2020 Wash100 Award on Tuesday.

This marks the fifth Wash100 Award win for Ambrose and the fourth consecutive year that he’s received the most prestigious award in all of government contracting (GovCon). Ambrose earned his fifth Wash100 Award for driving the company’s satellite capabilities as well as the nation’s upcoming lunar and space exploration missions.

Most recently, the Senate Appropriations Committee announced that it wants the U.S. Space Force to assess the potential gap in strategic communications as the service proposes budget cuts to the Evolved Strategic Satellite Communications (ESSC) program and plans to push back the replacement of Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) satellites with ESS to 2032.

Ambrose said that scheduling the migration from AEHF to ESS satellites could be a tricky matter given the need for the U.S. military and government to have access to strategic communications at all times. He also stressed the importance of managing customers expectations in order to avoid potential drawbacks from a “launch on need” mindset.

Throughout 2020, Ambrose has emphasized the importance of helping the U.S. Space Force to address the requirements in the domain via investments and collaborative efforts. “In order to really meet the needs of the Space Force we have to have a very vibrant marketplace and supply chain that feeds everything,” he said in Sept. 2020.

In addition to his tenure with Lockheed Martin, Ambrose has served as a board member or as a chairman for a wide range of organizations. For instance, he’s served on the board of directors of the Space Foundation and as the chairman of the Board of Directors for United Launch Alliance, the Sandia Corporation and the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on Space since Oct. 2014.

Executive Mosaic congratulates Lockheed Martin and Rick Ambrose for his 2020 Wash100 Award. His latest Wash100 Award win continues to demonstrate the level of vision and success that Ambrose has been able to achieve for the GovCon industry.
