John Goodman is the Chief Executive of Accenture Federal Services, which serves clients across all sectors of the US federal government—defense, intel, public safety, health, and civilian. John oversees every aspect of the company, including setting strategic direction, positioning the business in the market, managing client relationships and developing talent. Since joining Accenture in 1998, he has held a variety of leadership roles–including managing director of Accenture’s Defense & Intelligence portfolio, managing director for Management Consulting for the global Public Service Operating Group, and most recently as Chief Operating Officer of Accenture Federal Services.

Prior to coming to Accenture, Goodman served for five years in the federal government. As the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Industrial Affairs & Installations), he led the development and implementation of the Department of Defense’s successful military housing privatization initiative, worked with local communities to enable the productive reuse of closing military bases, and guided the analysis of industrial base issues—including defense mergers and acquisitions. John also served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Affairs as well as on the staff of the National Economic Council, the White House office responsible for coordination of economic policy. He was an associate professor at the Harvard Business School, and is a published author.

Goodman is a member of the board of Accenture Federal Services; chair of the Executive Committee of the Professional Services Council; member of the advisory board of Our Military Kids, a non-profit organization devoted to supporting the children of deployed members of the National Guard and Reserves; and member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He is a former chairman of the Defense Business Board and has twice been awarded the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service. He has also received the Department of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service.

Goodman received his Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from Middlebury College and his Master of Arts and doctorate degrees from Harvard University. He resides in Washington, D.C. with his wife and their three children.
