“Andreas is shaping ARKA into a major player in defense and space technology, earning him his second consecutive Wash100 placement. His leadership has driven big moves, like the acquisition of Maxar’s radar sensor tech group, strengthening ARKA’s position in advanced sensing and satellite systems,” said Jim Garrettson, CEO of Executive Mosaic and founder of the Wash100 Award. “With a strong vision and a drive for growth, Andreas is keeping ARKA on an impressive trajectory, and I’m excited to see where he takes it next.”
“This honor reflects the great strides that ARKA made during the past year, with continued growth in the missions that the nation needs most. I couldn’t be prouder of the ARKA team, and am grateful for the recognition,” Nonnenmacher said. “Every day, I am inspired by ARKA’s talent, with the brightest minds delivering world-class solutions for our customers. Our capabilities are supporting critical needs in space, on the ground and everywhere in between.”
ARKA Acquires Military Radar, Sensor Manufacturer
The acquisition of Maxar Technologies’ radar and sensor technology, or RST, group in November is one of ARKA’s biggest strategic moves in 2024. The RST group, based in Ypsilanti, Michigan, supports U.S. government synthetic aperture radar programs.
ARKA’s advanced communications and mission applications business unit absorbed the RST group following the acquisition’s completion.
“With our existing space hardware and leading software capabilities, this acquisition will allow ARKA to provide more powerful and flexible solutions to our customers’ ever-evolving and demanding mission needs,” Nonnenmacher said of the transaction in November.
ARKA Invests in Bigger Connecticut Facility
The space technologies developer is also expanding its facility in Danbury, Connecticut, to boost production of small satellite systems and payloads and meet increasing customer demand. ARKA allocated $85 million to create a 14,000-square-foot space that would also include modern cleanrooms where sub-meter aperture electro-optical/infrared telescopes and payloads will be assembled, integrated and tested.
The facility will also get an area for space-qualified film coatings on optics for all missions.
Awards
ARKA, under Nonnenmacher’s leadership, won the 2024 Connecticut Medal of Technology for the company’s contributions to science and national security, benefiting the state’s economy by creating employment opportunities through community outreach.
The medal was presented by the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering during an event held on May 21, 2024.
“We are honored to receive this prestigious award and look forward to continuing to invent the future,” said Nonnenmacher. “We’re proud of all that we have done and will continue to do, in Connecticut and beyond.”
Once again, Executive Mosaic would like to congratulate Andreas Nonnenmacher for his second Wash100 win and ARKA for its successes throughout 2024.
