The award is given annually to 100 executives, military personnel, government leaders and other individuals who have achieved success and demonstrated the ability to positively impact the future.
Championing Sustainable Energy and Space Travel
Musk has long championed the use of sustainable energy. Tesla is known for its electric vehicles that help reduce the reliance on fossil fuels. It also manufactures solar-powered products, particularly the Solar Roof and Powerwall home battery.
The executive is also involved in space explorations having founded SpaceX, which has paved the way for multiple space missions. The company is currently developing Starship, a reusable rocket that may help create a self-sustaining city on Mars and pave the way for interplanetary travel.
In June 2024, SpaceX was one of three companies awarded spots on a potential 10-year, $5.6 billion contract for launch services for the National Security Space Launch program’s third phase. The following month, the company secured $1.76 billion worth of contract modifications from the U.S. Space Force for the program’s second phase.
Maximizing Government Efficiency
As head of DOGE, Musk intends to improve government efficiency by cutting $2 trillion from federal expenditures. The department was established to modernize federal technology and software aimed at maximizing governmental efficiency and productivity.
In line with this, Musk reportedly proposed the use of blockchain technology to track federal spending, secure data, make payments and manage buildings.
According to President Donald Trump, “[Musk] will pave the way for my administration to dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures and restructure federal agencies.”
