“The well known industry leader Jeff Bohling is back for his second showing on the Wash100, and we’re proud to honor him. The Empower AI chief executive is leading the charge in bringing cutting-edge artificial intelligence and IT solutions to the federal space,” said Jim Garrettson, CEO of Executive Mosaic and founder of the Wash100 Award. Over the last year, the company has secured key contracts with the Army, GSA and Defense Logistics Agency, reinforcing its role in modernizing government tech. With past executive experience at Peraton, Perspecta and GDIT, Jeff knows what it takes to drive success in GovCon—and he’s doing just that at Empower AI.”

“I am honored to be recognized among the distinguished leaders in the Wash100 who are dedicated to advancing technology in support of our federal agencies’ critical missions,” Bohling said. “As an industry, we continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible and strengthen our nation’s capabilities.”

A Major Force in Developing AI for Government Use

Under Bohling’s leadership, Empower AI has positioned itself to become a major partner for the U.S. government.

Within the last six months, the technology developer and provider secured two important contracts to enhance operations and modernize the infrastructure of federal agencies.

In October, Reston, Virginia-headquartered firm received a broad agency agreement from the Defense Logistics Agency’s Acquisition Modernization Technology Research Program Management Office to integrate machine learning to improve warfighter readiness. The BAA supports DLA’s Strategic Plan, which includes the adoption of emerging technologies and modernizing enterprise IT to ensure that the agency can carry out its mission.

Bohling noted in his comment following the award that the DLA’s mission to manage the Department of Defense’s global supply chain requires advanced technologies and processes.

“We will help DLA take advantage of modernization opportunities that lead to faster procurements, more informed decision making and enhanced security,” he pledged.

More recently, Empower AI booked a $45 million task order from the U.S. Army to install wireless local area networks and local area networks for the Defense Health Agency. Work on the task order will be carried out at geographically separated units and MTFs across and outside the continental United States.

Noting the importance of Empower AI’s work with DHA, Bohling remarked, “This modernization effort will improve service delivery to military personnel, veterans and their families, while also taking a big step forward in erasing technical debt by modernizing legacy systems.”

Building the Best in Class Leadership Team

Bohling in the past year also recruited experts to drive innovation, implement strategies that lead to sustainable growth and ensure that the company is poised to deliver the most advanced technologies to meet the needs of federal agencies.

A top industry player who recently joined Empower AI is Elaine Duke, former deputy secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. In September, Duke was elected a member of the company’s board of directors. She will also serve as chairperson of the external advisory board of Empower AI.

In August, Empower AI, under the leadership of Bohling, appointed Jennifer Sample, former managing director at Accenture Federal Services, as chief technology officer. Sample is in charge of Empower AI’s technology vision and strategy in support of government customers.

“Dr. Sample has spent her career creating technical solutions that solve real problems for the federal government, and her expertise will advance agencies’ ability to address concerns in a changing world,” Bohling said about the CTO.

Before Accenture Federal Services, Sample held leadership positions at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.

By building up his leadership team, Bohling has strengthened his company’s ability to further support its customers, including the U.S. government, for which technological modernization and AI adoption are strategic imperatives. Bohling’s leadership has, without a doubt, put Empower AI on a sure path to continued success in the GovCon space. This is the kind of leadership the Wash100 Award celebrates.

Congratulations to Bohling and his team for this accomplishment!
